Shock absorbers are the cylinder-shaped components connected to the suspension whose purpose is to dampen the movement of the suspension. The suspension springs, after having received a stress, tend to return to their initial state in a rather abrupt way and, without the help of shock absorbers, would make driving anything but smooth.
